My partner, Rachel Hart, and I have a small, very personal homebirth practice. I have been in private practice as a traditional midwife for 18 years. I had a c-section with my first child and a wonderful home birth with my second. After leading a chapter of the Cesarean Prevention Movement (now ICAN) for a while I felt led to become a traditional midwife. I feel privileged to have found this profession.

I believe in the safety of birth and the wisdom of the body. My approach is more holistic than medical, but a safe outcome for mother and baby are my first priority. I believe that birth is a sacred event for a family and that mother and child should be treated with reverence and respect.

During the pregnancy we meet with the mother's for relaxed, friendly prenatal care lasting an hour or more. This is a necessary part of building the friendship that best facilitates a mother during the intimacy of birth. Besides the books provided as a part of the new mother package, a library of books and videos are available for loan. When the day of the birth arrives the mother creates the setting and tone of her birth environment. We encourage her to follow the flow of the birthing energy and to assume any position that works for her. We can be as involved or uninvolved as the parents want. We love to do water births and have a tub for loan if desired. We also offer a celebration bath after the birth if the mom feels up to it (see the web site for details).

We will attend women who are as much as two hours away, and may be able to find a midwife for you if you are further than that. Comprehensive, nutrition based prenatal care is available at my office in Marietta. Directions are available on the website. Call or email to set up your free consultation. I look forward to speaking with you.
